Human Skills
& AI Literacy

An accredited, SCQF credit rated award

Learners build the skills that hold up when the tools keep changing. How to think clearly. How to work with other people. How to notice, understand and use AI on purpose, and know when not to.

Credit rated at SCQF Level 5 and Level 6 (both 6 credit points). Delivered online. Assessed by portfolio, with no exam.

What the award is

  • Co-designed by social enterprises NomadAlba Collective with Code Division for the Future Skills Pathways consortium.

  • Project, place and portfolio based self paced award

  • Accredited through Code Division, an approved Qualifications Scotland centre.

The 9 core human skills, in 4 areas & AI literacy, in 3 stages

01

Notice

Where AI already sits in a student's day, what a model actually is, and what it is not.

02

Understand

How and what these systems produce, where training data comes from and how bias, hallucination and environmental cost show up in real outputs.

It answers the AI question with something concrete.

The Scottish Government published Guidelines and Guardrails for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Schools in March 2026, alongside Scotland's AI Strategy 2026 to 2031. The guidance is clear that AI should support human centred teaching rather than replace it, and that young people should learn about, understand and use AI as part of their entitlement to skills for learning, life and work. This award delivers that with an outcome attached.

03

Use

Purposeful use, ethical judgement and transparent decision making.

Why schools and colleges are taking this on

It fits where the senior phase is going and it’s deliverable.

The Scottish Diploma of Achievement has been accepted in principle, with a project element and a personal development element sitting alongside subjects. Portfolio assessed, project based, credit rated learning is the direction of travel. Schools running this now will have done it before they have to.

Self paced, cohorts of 5 to 14, no exam diet to work around, and minimal preparation for staff on the facilitator led route.

How It Works

01

Facilitator led

  • Our practitioners from NomadAlba and Code Division deliver the live sessions online. Your staff host and support meaning lowest preparation demand on your team, and the fastest way to run a first cohort.

  • Assessment is by portfolio in both routes, and both are quality assured the same way. all materials and resources provided and a secure learning space for students to upload work.

02

Teacher supported

  • Resources and Digital Platform access as per Facilitator Led, with teacher guides, student workbooks, project briefs, portfolio templates.

  • Your staff deliver, using our materials.

  • Requires training, which is costed separately.

  • Suits schools planning to run the award repeatedly and build the capacity in house.

Pilot terms

  • Already piloting in a rural Scottish high school, we are accepting a select number of schools and colleges into the 2026/27 pilot.

  • Pilot schools get input into how the award develops, priority on future cohorts, and named recognition as founding partners if they want it.

  • In return we ask for engagement with the evaluation: student and staff feedback at 3 points across delivery.

“Before the course I’d been out of the workforce for years and had lost confidence, unsure what kind of job I could even do. ...empathy and creativity sessions rebuilt that confidence giving me the courage to apply for roles I’d never considered. I now work in a digital role and my self belief has hugely improved.”
— Bridie: Women Returner Programme

In partnership with Code Division, Cultha Trust, Avant English Exams and other community partnerships

Planned for 20 learners, we actually welcomed 34 in the end. Frank and Bianca were able to design the course in under a week. Welivered workshops in Data, Business English, and Wellbeing. The programme was built on trust, care, and a sense of community and after completing the course, our learners sat the Avant english assessment and earned valuable SQA Data units. To achieve this while facing displacement, uncertainty, and trauma speaks volumes about their determination — and the dedication of our tutors. These qualifications opened doors for many, including data roles at Scottish Power for Anastasia, Maryna, and Alona. Every single learner showed incredible resilience in reaching this point — a real achievement in every sense.

  • "I've worked with Bianca for years and she's a role model in technology. A feminist, she builds inclusive, collaborative spaces. Globally minded and curious, she leads with equity and community, proving humanity is our most powerful technology. "

    Ellen Gunning CEO Metacomms

  • "I'd never considered the importance of human skills in a field as technical as data. Now I know I need to keep developing both. ""

Fiona, Women and Future Skills Programme

  • "This is more than a course, it's a community. You'll find friends, mentors, and the belief that you can achieve anything, even in a new country. "

Inna, Women and Future Skills Programme
