Community Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct is intended to guide participation in our community—both online and offline. It is inspired by the Inner Development Goals (IDGs), the Earth Charter, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together, these frameworks emphasize personal growth, mutual care, environmental responsibility, and collective action for a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.
1. Core Principles
Respect and dignity: Every person deserves to be treated with kindness, fairness, and respect regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, culture, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
Compassion and empathy: We strive to listen deeply, communicate with care, and support one another’s well-being.
Integrity and responsibility: We hold ourselves accountable for our words, actions, and their impacts, both within the community and in the wider world.
Sustainability and stewardship: We honor the Earth’s resources, minimize harm, and seek to contribute positively to ecological balance.
Collaboration and inclusivity: We recognize that diverse perspectives enrich our community and that collective action leads to greater impact.
2. Online Engagement
Use welcoming and inclusive language.
Avoid harassment, hate speech, discrimination, or personal attacks.
Respect privacy: do not share personal information without consent.
Be mindful of tone; written communication can easily be misunderstood.
Share resources and ideas generously, giving credit where due.
3. Offline / In-person Engagement
Create physically and emotionally safe spaces for all participants.
Respect personal boundaries (physical and verbal).
Ensure accessibility for people with different needs and abilities.
Reduce waste and resource use at gatherings; consider sustainable practices (e.g., recycling, low-impact catering, eco-friendly materials).
Encourage dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution.
4. Commitment to Development Goals
Inner Development Goals (IDGs): We encourage practices of mindfulness, humility, openness, critical thinking, and courage in service of collective flourishing.
Earth Charter: We affirm our interdependence with all life, strive for justice and peace, and protect the integrity of ecosystems.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): We align our projects and behaviours with global objectives such as reducing inequalities, advancing gender equity, combating climate change, and promoting health, education, and sustainable communities.
5. Addressing Concerns
If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code, speak up respectfully, or report it to community organizers/facilitators.
Reports will be handled confidentially, fairly, and promptly.
Consequences for violations may include a private warning, removal from events, suspension from online platforms, or permanent exclusion.
6. Our Shared Responsibility
This Code of Conduct is a living document. All members share responsibility for upholding and embodying it. By participating in this community, you commit to contributing positively, cultivating mutual respect, and advancing a vision of human and planetary flourishing.
“Let ours be a time remembered for the awakening of a new reverence for life, the firm resolve to achieve sustainability, the quickening of the struggle for justice and peace, and the joyful celebration of life.” — Earth Charter
